If you want to make a drink that stops people in their tracks, this is it. Golden saffron lemonade is one of the most visually striking beverages you can serve — the deep amber-gold of bloomed saffron swirling through bright, tart lemonade is simply breathtaking. And it tastes even better than it looks.
This is the drink to make for brunch, garden parties, or any time you want to impress with minimal effort.

Saffron Simple Syrup
- 20-25 threads of Milizo Saffron
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (240ml) water
Lemonade
- 1 cup (240ml) fresh lemon juice (about 6-8 lemons)
- 4 cups (960ml) cold water
- Ice cubes
- Lemon slices and saffron threads for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Make Saffron Simple Syrup
- Combine sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the saffron threads directly to the pan.
- Stir until sugar dissolves completely, about 3-4 minutes. Do not boil.
- Remove from heat and let steep for 15-20 minutes. The syrup will turn a deep, gorgeous golden color.
- Let cool completely before using.
Step 2: Assemble the Lemonade
- In a large pitcher, combine fresh lemon juice and 4 cups of cold water.
- Add the cooled saffron syrup and stir well. Start with 3/4 of the syrup and adjust sweetness to taste.
- Fill glasses with ice, pour lemonade over, and garnish with a lemon slice and a few saffron threads on top.
- Serve immediately.
Tips & Variations
- Make the syrup ahead — the saffron simple syrup keeps in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Make a big batch and use it for lemonade, cocktails, and iced tea all week.
- Sparkling version — swap the still water for sparkling water for a fizzy saffron lemonade that's absolutely irresistible.
- Saffron lemonade cocktail — add 1.5 oz of vodka or gin per glass for an easy elevated cocktail.
- Frozen slushie version — blend with ice for a stunning golden saffron slushie.
- The syrup is everything — Milizo's Super Negin gives you a syrup so richly golden it looks almost unreal. It's what makes the whole drink pop visually.
